Theo Hicks is an active composer and arranger and has written music for groups all over the world. Many of his arrangements have been premiered and performed by top choruses and quartets at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s (BHS) International Conventions, and he has also had several arrangements officially published by the BHS in their catalog. His composition of i carry your heart with me won the Best Original Composition at Anderson University’s Concerto/Aria Competition in 2009.
As a member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) and the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA), Theo is an active choral music educator that has presented classes at the Indiana Music Educator’s Association (IMEA) and Indiana Choral Director’s Association Conference (ICDA). He has also served on the faculty of Harmony University (BHS) for several years in Nashville, TN. He taught in the Indiana Public Schools for over seven years and frequently serves as a guest clinician and conductor for music programs and ensembles throughout the world.
Theo has also been a member of the BHS for over 15 years and remains active in district and international conventions. He sings in the 2015 International Champion Quartet, Instant Classic, and is the Musical and Artistic Director of Circle City Sound, a barbershop chorus located in Indianapolis.
Theo studied voice, piano, acting, and composition at Anderson University (Indiana) and graduated with Music Honors and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He is currently earning his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Ball State University (BSU) and working as a Graduate Assistant in the choral and music theory areas. He assists with the BSU Chamber Choir, the BSU Statesmen, and teaches Ear Training & Sight-Singing courses.
