Mozart composed his sacred works almost exclusively during his time in Salzburg, when he was in the service of the Fürstbischof, the Bishop-Prince. Emperor Joseph II and Pope Benedict XIV had issued various restrictions, in order to counteract the operatic movement in the church of the time, but luckily, due to Mozart’s incredible talent, these limitations did not stand in his way.
