Description

Carl Haefele was born in Unterheimbach on July 8, 1848, which is located halfway between the cities of Heilbronn and Schwaebisch Hall. On March 4, 1863 Haefele enlisted in the 8th Wuerttemberg Infantry Regiment No. 126 which later was renamed 8th Wuertt. Infantry Regiment No. 126 Grand Duke Frederick of Baden. Haefele stayed with this regiment during his entire military career, which means that he lived in Strasbourg, today located in France. He retired from his regiment as a Royal Director of Music on September 13, 1910. Haefele died in Strasbourg on August 18, 1924. The march “Grand Duke Frederick of Baden” is one of the most elegant of all German marches and a composition of international significance. It stands for the high quality of the German military march.
