This Zuhälterballade ("Souteneur ballad") comes from the famous "Dreigroschenoper" by Kurt Weill (lyrics by Bertolt Brecht). It is actually not an opera, but a theatre work with 22 individual song numbers. The work was sensationally received in 1928, being full of social criticism and ironic humour. Several songs have jazz-like influences and are often easy on the ear. The latter is certainly also true of the "Zuhälterballade", also known as the Tango ballad.
