Delphine von Schauroth komponierte 1830 diese hochromantischen Klavierstücke, von denen sie eines Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, mit dem sie freundschaftlich verbunden war, widmete und die – neben den gleichzeitig entstandenen Sechs Lieder ohne Worte op. 19 von Mendelssohn-Bartholdy – den Beginn dieses poetisierend-assoziativen Genres darstellen.
