Walzer
The Czech folk song "Andulko šafářova" (translated as "Shepherd's Annie") is primarily known to the brass band audience as the trio theme of the popular "Andulka March" by František Kmoch (1848–1912). Originally, this song was in 3/4 time, but Kmoch changed the melody's rhythm to 2/4 time for his march. In his composition "Walzer zum Träumen," Franz Watz now uses the original 3/4 time of the song and, in a different approach, brings in the Andulka melody not in the trio but at the beginning of his piece. The result: A waltz to dream to.
Franz Watz is undoubtedly an outstanding musical personality. As a versatile composer, arranger, lecturer, and adjudicator, he has earned an unparalleled reputation. With his extraordinary talent, tireless dedication, and passion for music, he has created numerous successful works in the field of traditional wind music. In recognition of his achievements, the music publisher RUNDEL is now dedicating an exclusive series to Franz Watz for his compositions and arrangements.
